In the midst of this global pandemic, it is easy and natural to feel anxious and uncertain. We’ve been living in uncertainty a lot lately which got me to thinking. In all reality, we’ve been living in uncertainty for our whole lives. At any given moment, there’s always a lot that we don't have control over; that we aren’t totally certain about. However, the degree of uncertainty lately seems to have shifted into high-gear, putting most of us out of our comfort zones.
In times like these, it is more important than ever before to know how to control our anxiety. Anxiety tends to increase our stress levels, which in turn lowers our immune systems. We have so much more control over our stress levels than we may realize. Our perspective on how we view uncertainty is a big factor in how much stress that uncertainty causes us.
I promise I'm not going to sit here in my ivory blog tower and tell you NOT TO BE STRESSED. I won't tell you not to let the events and situations of life stress you out. However, I will tell you that if you learn to gain control over the one thing you truly can control – YOURSELF, you’ll realize you have the ability to minimize your stress levels and face uncertainty with greater ease. There are a few tried and true activities that can help you manage your stress, but it’s important for you to find what works best for you!
Remember this - YOU have the power within yourself to control how stressed you allow yourself to become when faced with the uncertainty.
I have always believed out of tragedy and hard times comes something even better and more beautiful. Sometimes life’s greatest challenges are here to prepare us to change our world - the answer isn’t always clear right away and often isn't as simple as you want it to be. However, in every uncertain situation (once you find the patience, tenacity or faith to ride it out), you’ll find that there is indeed something better for you on the other side of it all.
That’s it for today’s #ReLTalk.
P.S. - what anyone else thinks about you and your behavior is none of their business. What you think of yourself is! Be gentle with yourself as the web of confusion is lifted and you become even clearer on how to get what you want for your life. It will require you to know and practice the things I teach on this blog but you can do it! You’ve got this and I’ve got you!
