Stress Management Activities

We don’t always know what’s ahead of us and that can be challenging. The great news is, there are a few simple ways we can choose to control our stress rather than letting fear take over. I’m here to share those with you today! 

  1. Ask yourself, "What am I learning about myself and others during this time?"  Grab your journal and allow your pen to flow. Dig deep.  Times like these are opportunities to wake-up to see what is really important to you and what you need to do to re-align your life.  You will be surprised at the wisdom and relief you feel getting it out onto paper.  
  2. Be Still.  Mostly every moment of the day we are occupied DOING something.  Allow your senses a moment of non-stimulation.  Feel the silence and your body settle into the chair.  Realize that this moment of stillness connects you to the simplicity of being here . . . now.  (And releases your stress and anxiety.)   
  3. Nourish yourself by preparing fresh fruits and vegetables.  Taste the clean crisp difference and contrast.  Focus on the flavors and textures and scent.  Not only will you be nourishing your body, but you will also be relieving your nervous system.  Mindfully.
  4. Lace-up your shoes and go for a walk.  Moving your body by gently walking is a great way to get the stress moving through you.  Observe your surroundings and allow yourself to notice the simplicity of life.  The beauty of the cracks in the sidewalk or interesting patterns in the bark of the tree trunks.  Listen to the birds, wind, and cars passing by.  

In the midst of uncertainty, we can easily fall into the trap of numbing out rather than creating space to feel through our uncomfortable emotions. I hope that these simple activities will guide you in creating space for yourself when faced with difficulty. Let these activities serve as a jumping off place for you to discover the beauty, strength and power from within.

P.S. - what anyone else thinks about you and your behavior is none of their business. What you think of yourself is!  Be gentle with yourself as the web of confusion is lifted and you become even clearer on how to get what you want for your life.
